History of Chambers of Commerce

Natural function: a meeting point between public authorities and the nation's economic forces.

Historic Milestones:

    1. The philosophy of the Chambers of Commerce was expressed for the first time. (Marseilles, France - 1599) "In charge of increasing the town's prosperity." By town council.
    2. The traditional function of consultancy made its first appearance. (Henry IV) officialized the institution and used services by asking for, "Recommendation to revive the economy of the kingdom.
    3. The mission of the Chambers of Commerce was now clearly mapped out. King Louis XIV demanded proposals for, "Increasing trade in France and outside the kingdom."
    4. The network was established. After abolishment under the Revolution, Napoleon re-established under the Consulate on the initiative of Chaptal 22 were created in the French Empire and developed throughout the 19th Century.
    5. The legal framework was fixed. (1898) role was formalized by French law, original statute was drawn up defining the Chambers as public establishments representing interests of trade and industry for national authorities.
    6. Development into permanent structures. (1960) classified federation as Chambers of Commerce and Industry (CCI) - (1964) law founded Regional Chambers of Commerce and Industry (CRCI).

As history of this institution proves, nothing has remained fixed and immobile which keeps Chambers of Commerce and Industry looking and moving forward.
