Chino Valley Business Leaders Thank First Responders

Chino Valley Chamber of Commerce businesses would like to thank our first responders including Chino Valley Fire, Chino Police, Chino Hills Police, California Institution for Men and California Institution for Women. We appreciate all that you do for our community.

Deputy Eileen Negron

Chino Valley Sheriff’s Department Deputy of the Year
Deputy Eileen Negron was hired by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department in 2005 and has been assigned to the Chino Hills station since April 2013. During her time at the station, she has worked to develop her patrol and investigative skills.

Deputy Negron has a great talent for interacting effectively with people during the course of her work day. Her excellent ability to deal with people has led to multiple citizens contacting the station to commend her. She is a good decision maker and a leader. In recognition of her leadership and investigative skills, she was assigned to serve as the acting detective in May of 2019.

With just a few months in the position, Deputy Negron has coordinated surveillance, overseen a search warrant on a residence, authored over 30 search warrants, and served effectively at the detective level.

Chino Hills Police Department supervisors selected Deputy Negron as the Deputy of the Year because of her excellent work ethic, decision-making skills, and consistently high performance.

Steve Burns

Chino Valley Fire District Employee of the Year
Steve Burns has served as the Fleet and Facilities Coordinator for the Chino Valley Fire District for five years. Steve and his wife, Sheri, have been residents of Chino for more than two decades. They have two adult children, Brent and Stevie. Steve is a graduate of Diamond Bar High School and the California State Contractor’s License School. He has over 20 years of experience as a contractor, and throughout his career, Steve has worked across a wide range of fields with several companies. Before coming to the Fire District, Steve was a local business owner, where he perfected his mechanical and business practices. As the Fleet and Facilities Coordinator for the Fire District, Steve handles repairs, general maintenance, and coordination of large projects. He has been involved in the procurement, development, and completion of our new maintenance facility. He has implemented new business practices, including a robust fleet maintenance program. Steve is involved in several programs that include the Heart Safe/Bleed Safe Program, Make a Child Smile, and the Remembering When program. His talents and experience have been put to good use with the installations of several automated external defibrillators trauma kits and smoke alarms in the homes of senior citizens throughout the community. Steve is a proud member of the community, and when not busy building or working on his next project, he can be found volunteering his time at District community events. His creativity and attention to detail are showcased in his designing and production of signs, plaques, and trophies throughout district facilities. In his personal life, Steve enjoys traveling to Cancun, Cabo San Lucas, and the Colorado River with his family.

Glenna Oliver

Chino Police Department Civilian of the Year
Public Safety Dispatcher Glenna Oliver is an exceptional employee. She has been a member of the Chino Police Department for 22 years and has held the positions of Communications Training Officer, Tactical Dispatcher, and Peer Support Coordinator.

Glenna is well known throughout the department for her kind, caring personality, which shows how deeply she cares for those she works with. Glenna’s enthusiasm for the Chino Police Department and its members is second to none. She has the ability to connect with every person she encounters, and her concern is truly genuine.

Glenna has been instrumental in the creation of our Peer Support Team and Family Matters Program. When a local police officer was killed, Glenna helped to coordinate meals and a visit to the other department’s dispatch center. She is often found checking in with those that have been off sick or have had a recent surgery.

Glenna demonstrates characteristics such as Commitment, Purpose, Passion, and Optimism. Many are honored to call her friend and this organization flourishes because she is a part of it. For her work ethic, dedication, and caring commitment to the members of this organization, Glenna is being recognized as the 2019 Professional Staff Employee of the Year.

Matthew Robertson

Chino Valley Fire’s Firefighter of the Year
Matt Robertson is a Firefighter/Paramedic and a four-year veteran of the Chino Valley Fire District. Matt and his wife, Crystal, reside in Huntington Beach with their two sons, Barron and Boden.

Matt grew up in Chino Hills where he graduated from Ayala High School. He studied Fire Science at Mount San Antonio College and completed a state-accredited fire academy at Riverside Community College. He studied paramedicine at Orange Coast College before receiving his paramedic license from National College of Technical Instruction in 2010. Matt is currently working to complete his bachelor’s degree in Emergency Medical Services Management from Columbia Southern University.

Matt was nominated as Firefighter of the Year by his peers for his service and commitment to the District. He is a member of the District’s Urban Search and Rescue and Swift Water Rescue teams. Matt is an International Association of Fire Fighters Survival Instructor. He has competed in the annual California Fire EMS and Disaster Conference (CFED) paramedic competition. He placed first in 2018 and second in 2019 with team member Adam Barker.

Matt’s positive attitude, professionalism, and solid work ethic are just a few of his attributes. He serves on the Fire Ground Survival Committee and is an instructor for the District’s new hire academy. He is a member of the Chino Valley Fire Foundation and is the facilities coordinator for the Make a Child Smile program. He is on the Saint Paddy’s Festival committee. He also serves as a member of the ALS Association’s Golden West Chapter. In his personal life, Matt enjoys skiing, mountain biking, endurance sports, and camping with his family.

Jason Larkin

2019 Chino Police Officer of the Year
Corporal Larkin has been with the department for over 13 years. He has held a variety of special assignments to include Training Coordinator, Narcotic Investigator, DEA Task Force Officer, FTO, Part- time Background Investigator, Department Instructor, and Detective. Despite his impressive experience, Corporal Larkin is very humble and personable, which makes him a great representative of our department and law enforcement in general.

Corporal Larkin is an extremely hard worker and a skilled investigator. He has a remarkable ability to relate to everyone he comes in to contact with. Corporal Larkin is always looking for opportunities to mentor others and is an exceptional team member who truly enjoys seeking out the criminal element. Over the course of the last year, Corporal Larkin has conducted several noteworthy investigations and assisted with many others. These investigations include armed robberies, ADWs, burglaries, a home invasion robbery, a backflow valve theft series, attempted murders, and murders.

Corporal Larkin also assisted kids in need at Loma Linda Children’s Hospital. He coordinated with the police associations to raise donations for the “K-Froggers for Kids Radiothon” which benefits kids battling cancer during the holiday season. Corporal Larkin spoke on the air about the cause and challenged others to donate as well. Several other local law enforcement agencies responded by making significant donations that ultimately raised over $300,000 in donations for the hospital.

For his exceptional job performance and going above and beyond in community engagement, Corporal Jason Larkin is being recognized as the 2019 Officer of the Year.
